My zafira Empty
PostSubject: My zafira   My zafira Icon_minitimeTue Jul 06, 2010 9:02 pm

Hi all, I own an 03 reg zafira and just recently I've had problems starting to happen. Mainly loss of power and engine stalling when stopping at lights etc. My yellow engine is on and has been for a while. A mechanic turned it off for me but it has since come back on. I've been told that this is not serious as it doesn't affect the mot pass. But now I'm thinking it is something. Apart from getting ripped off by vauxhall dealer I'm wondering if any body knows a good solution to this. It's been serviced regulary and was a mobility car before I owned it. It had done 30k miles and now it's on 50k.
I can't help thinking that the fact it revs so high at high speeds is a massive reason to these problems. All the rev counter does go a bit loopy sometimes   It sometimes idles at 2000 revswhile stationary. Thanks for any advice.Oh yeah it's a 1.6 model manual and I think it's too heavy for that engine size. At high speeds it revs at over 4000. Can this be adjusted?? Also a shot in the dark if I wanted to buy say 1.8 engine to put in it instead rather than buying a new car is this easy or too much hassle? Thanks again.

Sounds like your egr valve m8, also your throttle body could probably do with a good clean out with some carb cleaner as well.

High revs at high speeds is quite normal so i wouldn't worry about that part too much, because the zafira is so heavy i assume vauxhall just played with gear ratios a bit on the lesser powered engines. I've got the 1.8 and the revs are approx 3000-3500 for 60mph and 4000-4500 for 80mph.

If you do clean your throttle body make sure you clean out the real small breather hole too. From looking inside the throttle body the hole is tiny, you will need a pin or piece of wire to clean it.

For peace of mind it might be worth you doing the pedal test to see what codes are stored, may highlight the problem.

I believe there is a how2 guide on here certainly worth doing a search for it.

Hope this helps and welcome to the site Smile

Unfortunately the pedal test can't be done on an 03 zafira, thats a feature only on the zaf b's

Pedal test works on my 1.8, or do you mean it doesn't work on 1.6's?

I stand corrected. I've heard a lot of people with zafira A's say that it doesn't work for them. Does it only work if there is a code stored?

By rights it should work..when you hold down the acc pedal and brake pedal together you are keeping them both down all the time when you turn key to first position..and keep holding them down all the time the test is running..if you release one pedal just slightly it wont work..

Yup, that's exactly what i did. Guess my bus is just special My zafira Icon_biggrin It's not a problem though as i've got a cheap obd2 reader as it is. Just thought i'd try it again as everyone's convinced it works on any fly by wire zaf.

After dozens of attempts, finally i got it so that the car and spanner light started to flash. However thats all it did, no pauses or blanks just continuous flashing until i took my feet off the pedals. I guess that means i have no problems
