PostSubject: Failure of the LED Odometer   Wed Aug 04, 2010 6:38 am

I am well pleased overall with my Zafira which I bought 1st June (1.9 diesel Comfort, 51 Reg'd) 50+ mpg on a long run. Need a new ignition key, the buttons knackered on the one that came with the car, will contact a local auto sparky.

Anyway, my problem - this morning noticed the mileometer (odometer) and trip LED were not lit up. Mind you car has done 107,000 miles so maybe they just wore out! Has anybody got any ideas as to how to get them on again.

By the way, chose Jowettman as my "handle" 'cos I hav a 1951 Jowett Javelin which I restored from scrap back in the mid 1990s.

I thought that all the Zaffy A's were 2.0 diesel's and that the 1.9 cdti engine wasn't introduced until the Zaf B when it came out in 2006. So I am a bit confussed as to which model you have. Is it an A or B?

If it is in fact an A then might you not have inadvertantly knocked the dash lights dimmer dial down. I did this before and thought all my dash lights had gone until I realised my mistake and simply just turned the dial back up again. Not sure of the layout in a B so if it is then disregard the above.

re your key buttons , you can buy the button part of the key on ebay for about £10...you just take out your inner bits and fit into the new piece ,straight swap.. easy to do..

if you go down this road ,remember that when you pull the blade from the button section to make sure that the chip remains in the blade section(a little piece that juts out just insdie the plastic piece of the blade..

Will see if I can post a photo of the car - not too good with computers! The badge on back says 2.0 DTi, but the book says the engine is 1995cc. Car was reg'd November 2001 with engine #17B06823. I did have a non start problem last week. Garage got it going with easy start thought it may have been an air bubble in fuel line. I think it might be that dicky key operate. When driving, that funny little icon with a spanner shows from time to time, but engine does not falter. Electronics!!! The bane of our lives these days!

I am in north Leeds. Took a pic of the car but can't see how to down load it to the site. Now you can see why I fiddle with a 59 yr old car - no electronic gizmos!!!!

PS - found a key fob on eBay and have ordered it. Will get a friend who is "in" to electronics to do the swap. Saved me £70 thanks for the tip.
