Rear Brakes Empty
PostSubject: Rear Brakes   Rear Brakes Icon_minitimeFri Aug 20, 2010 8:35 pm

Had to have rear brakes replaced yesterday, worked carried out was:

NS & OS Brake Shoes,
NS & OS Drums,
OS Cylinder
OS Handbrake Cable,

This was all due to a ceased and incorrectly adjusted handbrake cable caused the rear brake to fail.

£285.00 (2 weeks after forking out £950.00 for damaged engine from a snapped timing belt).

anyhow, i was adviced by the bloke who did the brakes that my OS front tyre is worn below legal limit and that the track rod end has had it (would that be the cause for balding tyre?)

also, NS and OS rear brake hose/pipe corosion.

Are these parts a DIY job or am i gonna have to stump up more cash? MOT is in 3 weeks would like to get it sorted without paying out more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more.

thats is well cheap mate.

it the track rod end is corroded then you cannot track the car which if the tracking is out would cause uneven tyre wear ( toe in or toe out depends if its bold on outta or inner edge )
dont atempt to track it yourself you need a laser tracker to get it spot on.

you could do the pipe yourself but you will need a brake pipe clamp other wise brake fluid will go all over the place. it melts tyre's tarmac and paint

the norm is to make the brake pipes. a roll of copper brake pipe, some pipe unions of the right size and thread. and a pipe flaring tool. oh and some brake fluid.
