Smell of fuel

Have been having this problem for a little while now and was told it was the charcoal filter, bit not too sure tbh lol. Im getting a strong smell of petrol in the car but not outside. Have had the fuel lines etc checked and there is no leak at all. It doesnt seem to be losing fuel at all so not sure where else to turn. Any suggestions please?! Thanks

mine used to do that till i swapped my petrol cap with my old vectra one dont smell a thing now mate so worth a try

Ive checked all around the fuel cap mate and theres nothing there. The smell is only inside the car which baffles me lol

the same as mine for some reason but changing the cap solved it

just a thought mate is yours a single point injector as the main hose that goes from this to the air are prone for splitting where you clamp it to the top off the carb on the rim this can then stink the car out when running

all I know is that its a 1.6 16v mate lol

yeah should be single point check the hose aint split mate where the clamp is carb end might have to take it off to check properly only 10min job

ive got a 1.6 16v and ive got the same problem , i ought to have seen this last week as i had loads of oily mess around my carb/throttlebody inlet area , ive just cleaned it with carb cleaner , if i had seen this i could have checked the pipe , which one is it exactly i need to check , mine smells of fumes/petrol ,thanks (did it sort yours?)

hi mate the big pipe that goes to the airbox carb end where the circle clip is undo it because this is where it splits

well fair play topladz was bang on the button lol went to my local vx dealer earlier and bought a new fuel cap and its sorted!! Will post pics up later of the difference between the old and new caps! Its surprising how bad the old one is! Cheers for that fella

ive not done the fuel cap yet but i just wondered if it might be running rich , i put £5 in from the light on and then lent it my mum and dad and parked on the kerb so yes it was leaning with the drivers side down , the light was off when i left it , the day after my dad rung to say the car wont start and there was no petrol in it , if the cap was letting fumes out would it lose fuel????
also i dont know if its running rich the fuel doesnt really last long in it , i might aswell run a v8,lol

check fuel filter possibly mate. may be a blockage there
