folks,

looking to get trip comp activated on my zaf b,fitted new head unit and three line display(BID).
decided to take a run in past Belmont Vauxhall in Aberdeen to see what they say.

Service manager did not have a clue what i was on about!!!
younger guy said yes it can be done but i have to fit a new ECU with the trip computer settings in it.
i said no you just need to go on to tech 2 and change the code index of the display(5 min job). this was met by more blank expressions and the service manager saying all tech 2 jobs take at least 1 hour to do.
they then said they could hook it up to tech 2 and have a look,cost of £75+ vat. Trip Computer Activation Icon_eek

i said ok and could i go and see them do it or i could show them from some instructions i have as none of their tech 2 guys knew what i was on about.

They said NO!

just proves they dont know what they are doing sometimes and charge the earth for it

how can they justify charging that much when the customer knows more than them, I always thought, taking on a career means learning new things about your trade as technology moves on, soft lads!! Trip Computer Activation Icon_lol

hi,

it's a 2006 1.6 life. Z16XEP engine

i have removed the old head unit and screen and put in the new one. am i better to put the old one back in and get them properly divorce from the car. also i have go no idea if the new one i bought has been properly divorced from the car it came from.

what would be the best way of going about this. i am starting to think that in my haste to get it done i have maybe cocked things up.

Those codes are for the Astra I think as Zaf does not have linear resistance or voltage.

Just depends on the part number of the BID.

what does it entail getting a head unit and display properly divorced from a car?

Firstly it needs to go back into the original car, but if not I think that there could be another way.

mmm. i think this is going to be more hassle than it's worth. may just put the cd30mp3 and BID on ebay and then put original (cd30 and TID)back into car.

I think the dealer should be able to change the code index ok.

quick update
managed to go to local vauxhall dealer and they agreed to do reprogramming of code index.
as the part number of my screen was 13111165 they changed the code to 004. they charged me £15 which is a complete bargain compared to some places i have had quotes from.
so off i set for home happy as larry and a few miles down the road i pushed the BC button on the head unit and guess what 'no function'. tried the button on the steering wheel and 'no function'.

what next?

have managed to find out that the head unit and screen came from an astra H. would this have any effect on the code i need to use?

even though you have them paired don't you still need them programed in for the things such as trip comp and bulb faliure warnings via tech 2?

right, everything is working now, phoned garage and asked tech to confirm what he changed the code index on and he said head unit. told him it was supposed to be on display. so i went back and he stuck it back on tech 2 machine. reset head unit to what it was and then changed display to 004 as you said lee and success all working trip computer. that's all i wanted really.
cost me £15 to get tech 2 done by vauxhall dealer Trip Computer Activation Icon_biggrin

. was really pleased about that.
